Our Talkeetna and Denali hiking trips are a great option for those who love to walk.  Interested in taking a moderate stroll and learning more about nature around Talkeetna?  Join a Talkeetna Lakes Hike.  Do you want a more rigorous hike in the woods and mountains vistas that have enticed you as you travel through Alaska?  Our naturalists will guide you along gorgeous trails in nearby Denali State Park. Our guides have years of experience as Denali National Park Rangers - you'll get exercise and an education about the wildlife, plants, and history of the Talkeetna area.

Avail. 5/24 - 9/16 - Immerse yourself in Alaska’s tranquil beauty on a two-mile nature walk in Denali State Park. Enjoy magnificent views of Byers Lake and surrounding mountains, perhaps even majestic Mt. McKinley. Learn about the area’s animal and plant life, and take home a healing salve made from native plants. Explore a log cabin that once belonged to a pioneering couple. Hear about how the adventuresome family survived the long winters in this beautiful setting. You may see nesting trumpeter swans, loons, eagles, or bears foraging for spawning salmon. A visit to the Alaska Veterans Memorial and park visitor center offers spectacular vistas of the Alaska Range. The pace of this hike is comfortable, with frequent stops and photo opportunities.

Note: This hike is on a well-maintained trail with approximately 300 feet of elevation gain. Dress for the current weather conditions. Bring your camera, binoculars, and insect repellent.

The Nature Walk and Wilderness Hike in Denali State Park both begin at the Byers Lake Campground day use area: Turn into the Byers Lake Campground at Parks Highway mile 147, go 1/3 mile and turn right into the day use area. Look for the Hiking sign.

Avail. 6/2 - 9/16 - Explore the Alaskan wilderness on an exhilarating trek in the heart of Denali State Park. Hike through lush vegetation along forested trails while your guide tells you about the local history and wildlife of the area. Hike above tree line for spectacular views of the Alaska Range, glaciers, and Mt. McKinley (weather permitting). Enjoy a freshly prepared picnic lunch while scanning the mountainside and valleys for foraging bears. Photographic opportunities abound - from majestic alpine vistas to delicate wildflowers and berries.

Note: Denali Wilderness Hikes range from 5 to 7 miles and may involve challenging terrain on established trails. Sturdy hiking shoes recommended. Bring rain gear, insect repellent, bottled water, and dress for current weather conditions. Trail routes may vary due to trail and weather conditions.

Avail. 5/24 - 9/16 - Take a hike! Explore Talkeetna’s best trail with a great naturalist guide. A new scene of beauty unfolds around every turn on this three-mile moderate hike. Look for loons and kingfishers on the lakes, moose and bears in the woods, and Mt. McKinley on the horizon. This lush old-growth forest is alive with songbirds, wildflowers, berries, and mushrooms. This is a great trip in any weather. Includes a delicious snack.

Transportation from your Talkeetna-area lodging is free if within 4 miles of downtown Talkeetna (North of Fish Lake.) There is a $25 transportation fee if you need to be picked up south of Fish Lake.
